For the first fifteen years of my HR career, I occupied a diverse range of Employee Relations/Human Resources roles with leading organizations, including Trans Australia Airlines, Ford Motor Company, International Harvester, Burswood Island Resort and Casino, and Coles-Myer. Some of my major achievements included: -
• Maintaining a strike-free record at International Harvester during an enforced scheme of arrangement with a deeply resentful/antagonistic union movement
• Arriving in Perth to assume HR start-up responsibility for the first-ever casino/entertainment complex in Western Australia, with nothing in existence upon arrival, and leaving three years later with a fully operational workforce exceeding 2,000 staff members
• Successfully negotiating and executing the first-ever employer-based EBA in the Australian retail industry, creating a major precedent saving Coles-Myer in excess of $10m per annum.
In late 1995, I formed Optimum Performance HR Consultants, where I spent the next two decades designing & delivering employee relations, people analytics, workforce planning, and HR Department infrastructure programs to a diverse client base located throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia, South Africa, and the USA. (13 countries).
During this period, I also developed & managed my own USA HR Best-Practice Study Tour for more than a decade, benchmarking with pre-eminent organizations including Harley-Davidson, FedEx, NASA, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard & Marriott Hotels.
I also found time to facilitate three advanced HR projects that achieved multi-million-dollar savings for clients in both the private and public sectors.
After a short stint in the HR software development industry between 2016 and 2018, I re-established my previous consulting practice, albeit re-badged as Moore HR Consultants.
Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, Covid-19 arrived in the most locked-down city in the world, causing me immense hardship in a business where 80% of my clients were located overseas or interstate.
And so it was that I sought out other forms of work within the food & beverage/hospitality industry, while progressively re-building much of my former business, with the emphasis being placed upon HR Infrastructure & People Analytics services, offering both DIY and custom-built options.
It would be my view that there has never been a better time for HR Departments to streamline their infrastructure services to focus more time and effort on key outcomes desired by business owners and key stakeholders.
