I spent the first 19 years of my professional career occupying a diverse range of Employee Relations/Human Resources roles with leading organizations, including Trans Australia Airlines, Ford Motor Company, Burswood Island Resort and Casino, and Coles-Myer.
In late 1995, I formed Optimum Performance HR Consultants, where I spent the next two decades designing & delivering people metrics & analytics, workforce planning & sustainability, and HR strategy & infrastructure solutions to a diverse client base located throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia, South Africa, and the USA.
Along this journey, I also developed and facilitated: -
1. A myriad of Workforce Planning & People Analytics training workshops, conferences, and special events attended by more than 3,000 HR professionals at all levels of the profession.
2. Tertiary-level blended learning subjects & MBA short courses in collaboration with Deakin & Latrobe Universities as well as the Australian Human Resources Institute
3. My own USA HR Best-Practice Study Tour, benchmarking with pre-eminent organizations including Harley-Davidson, FedEx, NASA, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard & Marriott Hotels for more than a decade.
After a brief stint in the HR software development industry from 2016 to 2018, I re-established my previous consulting practice, albeit it rebranded as Moore HR. Upon recently celebrating my 30th year as a professional consultant, I took some out to reflect upon the major lessons I had learned in my interactions with HR Leaders/Teams across the 11 countries where I have previously worked.
The clear outcome for me personally and for the HR profession in general was a recognition that while there exist a myriad of services available to develop knowledge and capability in a specific Human Resources discipline or program, the same cannot be said in relation to the professional acumen HR leaders and front-line staff require to adequately justify, leverage, present, execute and/or defend a desired Human Resources product or service to a level that gains real traction & support from key stake-holders. In my own developmental years where did I learn these critical skills other than through trial and error, frustration and despair. Is this indeed still the case in 2026?
This subsequently led me to develop my five HR Lessons Learned programs which inform and enable HR professionals to develop and utilize a set of new-age skills that will elevate their role, contribution and personal satisfaction/longevity.
Thankyou for dropping by.
